The think-tank based in Italy the Institute of International Affairs (IAI) will organize a seminar called “Azerbaijan`s Foreign Policy Priorities: Regional and European Dimension” in Rome.

According to sam.gov.az, the event will discuss main priorities of Azerbaijan`s foreign policy by assessing the old and new trends in its relations with the regional factors (from Central Asia to Russia, Iran, Turkey and Israel) and international players (the EU, US, NATO).

The seminar will feature reports by Ettore Greco - Director, Istituto Affari Internazionali, Rome; Paul Goble - Adjunct Professor at the Institute of World Politics, Washington, US and Co-editor of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy`s online publication Azerbaijan in the World; Licinia Simao - Assistant Professor in International Relations and Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra, Portugal.

Dr. Kamal Makili-Aliyev, leading research fellow of Center for Strategic Studies (SAM) will make a presentation of the outline of his paper called “Foreign Policy of Azerbaijan: between East and West”

This seminar is of IAI`s research programme entitled “Azerbaijan, Caucasus and the EU: Towards Close Cooperatio” The first round table on the future mediation of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict was held in July 2011, the second on Azerbaijan`s energy diplomacy in November 2011, the third one on the democracy development and human rights in February 2012, and the fourth meeting on the economic transition in Azerbaijan and relations with Italy in May. The project will be concluded by the final conference on the EU-South Caucasus relations.
