The State Committee of Azerbaijan for Work with Religious
Organizations commented on the U.S. State Department Report on Human
Rights for 2011, regarding to our country.
The report of the State Department doesn't reflect the real situation
with the rights of believers in Azerbaijan and is superficial, the
State Committee said.
"The report of the U.S. State Department, show poor analytical work
and the use of template schemes in addition to a number of gaps and
inaccuracies. For example, the report states that the religious
community Church of praising has not been registered in the State
Committee, although it was officially registered, but under a different
name - Word of life. It was also incorrectly stated that the Committee
put forward any claim to a religious community Jehovah's Witnesses,
while, on the contrary, the community itself appealed to the courts with
lawsuits against the committee," the Committee stated.
Partiality is demonstrated also with regard to the religious
literature. The authors of the report stated that there are restrictions
on publication and distribution of religious literature in Azerbaijan,
while this opinion is not shared not only by the State Committee, but by
the vast majority of religious communities in Azerbaijan. The committee
did not receive any complaints in connection with religious literature,
except for complaints of the community, Jehovah's Witnesses, until now,
the Committee said.
