Islamabad has hosted a celebrative event to mark the 94th anniversary of the founding of Azerbaijan`s Armed Forces.
The event was attended by deputy chief of Pakistan`s Land Forces Khalid
Nawaz Khan, deputy commanders of the country`s Air Force and Navy, Armed
Forces generals and admirals, senior Senate officials, senators,
members of the National Assembly, state and government officials,
intellectuals, journalists, representatives of the diplomatic corps in
Islamabad and members of the Azerbaijani community.
The event featured a photo exhibition reflecting Azerbaijan`s military
power, and a documentary on the country`s last year military parade. Speaking to the event, Azerbaijani ambassador Dashkin Shikarov said Azerbaijan and Pakistan had close friendly relations.
He highlighted Azerbaijan`s achievements under President Ilham Aliyev in
the last few years. The ambassador spoke of humanitarian projects
implemented in Pakistan on the initiative of president of the Heydar
Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.
Nawaz Khan spoke of historic roots of Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations. He
said there was a strong cooperation basis between the two countries`
armed forces. Nawaz Khan stressed the importance of reciprocal visits by Pakistani and Azerbaijani high-level military delegations.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said Pakistan
fully supported Azerbaijan`s fair position. He added Pakistan do not
recognize Armenia as a state.
Military attaché of Azerbaijan`s Armed Forces in Pakistan Dashdamir
Mammadov spoke of the history of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
The event has been in spotlight of local Navai Vakt, Pakistan Observer
and The Nation newspapers, and Cenreline magazine, as well as broadcast
by PTV, DRY News, and CNBC TV channels.
