The 636th avenue of Mamak, a metropolitan district of Ankara, Turkey, was given a name of the Azerbaijani town Khojaly, according to the Azeri Embassy in Turkey.
The decision was made May 12, 2012 to perpetuate the memory of the victims of terrible massacre committed by the Armenians in the Azeri-populated town Khojaly, located in Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan (now occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces).
Khojaly Avenue is one of the largest avenues of Mamak district binding Ankara’s Shakhintepe, Shirintepe, Misket and Dutluk areas. The initiative was launched by the Commission of Ankara Municipality and accepted by a majority of 82 voters.
