Latvia supports settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the
territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, said visiting Foreign Minister of
Latvia Edgars Rinkevics in the joint press conference with his
Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister pointed out they discussed political,
economic, humanitarian cooperation between the two countries as well as
regional issues. He said Azerbaijan, Latvia enjoy good relations and
expansion of these ties was one of the main topics of the discussions.
Mammadyarov briefed the Latvian Minister on Azerbaijan`s position on
Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The sides also discussed educational cooperation and agreed on further development of these relations. The Latvian Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening existing
relations. He said they support Azerbaijan-European Union strategic
partnerships initiative. He highlighted Azerbaijan`s key role in
European energy security.
Rinkevics stressed that the meeting also focused on the NATO-Azerbaijan
relations. He thanked the Azerbaijani side for its peacemaking efforts
in Afghanistan. He also extended congratulations on Baku`s hosting Eurovision song contest.
