Azerbaijan`s defense minister, colonel-general Safar Abiyev yesterday met Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Necdet Ozel. Abiyev briefed the Turkish Chief of the General Staff on the military and political situation in the region and the problems caused by the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Azerbaijani minister reiterated Baku`s position, saying “as the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group to resolve the conflict have not produced concrete results, Azerbaijan is forced to take back its occupied territories by other means and is, therefore, strengthening its armed forces”.

Abiyev and Ozel discussed the Azerbaijani-Turkish military cooperation, stressing the importance of deepening it even more. They also emphasized the importance of the two countries` military cooperation within NATO.
