International Mugham Center has conducted a scientific-practical seminar on "The Role of Music in Society" with the support of the Culture Ministry's Scientific-Methodical and Specialization Center for Culture, Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (ADMIU) and the International Mugham Center, Azernews reports.

Professor Kamila Dadashzade, head of the ADMIU Department of Music History and Theory, Honored Art Worker, Sara Timurova, head Teacher of the Department, Vafa Abbasova, head of the Department, Associate Professor Maryam Babayeva, head of the Pop Art Department addressed the event.

The experts who spoke about the ecology of traditional music culture, intersection points of modern music and society, synchronic and diachronic aspects of the problem of music and society, problems of teaching Azerbaijani popular music, and also answered the questions of the audience about the topics.

At the seminar moderated by the honored cultural worker Saadat Tahmirazgiz, ADMIU students and tar player Ismayil Zulfugarov performed "Shur" mugham- "Tar boogie" composition.

The Mugham Center was established on the initiative of the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, in accordance with the presidential decree dated April 6, 2005.

Since 2008, the center has successfully demonstrated the art of mugham, a unique form of traditional Azerbaijani music that holds deep historical roots.

The design of the building was based on the elements and shapes of the tar, an Azerbaijani musical instrument used in performing mugham. The center was built with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The Mugham Center regularly organises large-scale music festivals and concerts by highly acclaimed cultural figures.

The Center also takes important steps towards bolstering cultural ties with Turkiye, Poland, Brazil, Uzbekistan, Morocco, and other countries.

The International Mugham Center is determined to further expand its work and promote Azerbaijani musical culture.
