The Embassy of France in Azerbaijan has organized an official reception to mark the French National Day -- Bastille Day.

The event brought together state and government officials, MPs, scientific and cultural figures, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Baku, public figures.

Addressing the event, French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Aurélia Bouchez highlighted the development of relations between France and France, Trend reported.

“The year of  2017 has been an outstanding year, as it saw the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the official visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Paris on March 14,” said France’s ambassador.

She stressed that the meeting with Francois Hollande confirmed the excellent quality of political dialogue between the two countries on all topics.

"It stressed the key role played by Azerbaijan for the EU energy security," said the ambassador.

Bouchez stressed that during the visit by President Aliyev to France, the importance of reaching a negotiated and lasting solution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was once again underlined by France as the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The ambassador also expressed confidence that relations would further develop in the fields of politics, economy, science, education and culture.

Deputy Minister of Economy Sahil Babayev congratulated the people of France on behalf of the Azerbaijani Government. He praised the development of cooperation between France and Azerbaijan in the fields of economy, politics, education and culture.

Babayev stressed that bilateral visits and various projects contributed to the development of cooperation.

 "Today, the two countries have signed about 60 documents. The trade relations are steadily  developing between  Azerbaijan and France. Nearly 55 French companies operate Azerbaijan. French companies have invested in 2.2 billion Euro in country ," he added.

Babayev stressed that interregional cooperation has been extensive. A Committee of the Department for Interregional relations will be also established, he said. 

Azerbaijan and France established diplomatic relations in February 1992.

French companies are actively participating in the petrochemical, food, agricultural, machine engineering, tourism and other spheres in Azerbaijan.
