By means of the GUAM transit corridor in the first six months of 2010, Ukraine met its needs for crude by 25% which is a serious factor, the GUAM Secretary General Valeriy Chechelashvili said.

He said of $2bn which Ukraine spent for crude purchase in six months it imported crude oil from Azerbaijan in the amount of $500m.

This has become possible because the Azerbaijan-Ukrainian-Georgian corridor is working stably, he noted.

GUAM is intended for strengthening positions of our all four countries. In the result of this project Ukraine covers 25% of its needs for oil, Azerbaijan gets an alternative market of oil products export, while Georgia wins from this transit, Chechelashvili added.
