Consumer Prices Index increased 20.8% in Azerbaijan during 2008, said the State Statistical Committee.

During January-December, the price rise was 28.6% in foodstuffs, 11.5% in nonfood products and 11.4% in services.

Compared to a month ago, prices of goods and services decreased 0.4% in December.

The Government of Azerbaijan predicted inflation at below 18% for the yearend, higher form the original forecast of 12-14%. Annual inflation reached 21.6% at the end of January-October, according to official statistics.

According to the IMF outlook, inflation would not be below 20% in the country.
