Pushed up by spending and demand growth, the inflation rate for the first quarter reached 16.6% in Azerbaijan, the National Bank board chair Elman Rustamov told a quarterly government meeting.

The nominal incomes and monthly wages climbed 29% and 25% respectively against this figure but prices increase in non-oil industry encouraged inflation in the country, he added.

He claimed that the country has strong anti-inflation potential and by this instrument along with the government it is possible to slow down the price increase during the period ahead. APA-Economics
