Senior Iranian and Azeri transportation managers held their first joint meeting in Astara on Monday night.

After the meeting, director general of Gilan province's Transportation and Terminals Organization Seyyed Aziz Seyyed-Jifroudi told IRNA that the two sides studied strategies to increase transit of goods between the two countries.

He added that the meeting was held upon Iran's request for holding talks with Azeri officials on improving bilateral transportation relations.

According to the agreement reached in the meeting, the Azeri party should announce the accurate amount of duties that Iranians should pay.

The head of the Iranian delegation to the talks added that Iran's major auto makers are ready to cooperate with the neighboring country to promote standardization of its transportation fleet.

Javid Najafov, head of Research Office of Azeri Ministry of Transport, for his part, said that decisions made in the meeting were promising.

He added that holding such meetings in Azerbaijan and Iran will strengthen bilateral ties and improve regional transportation conditions.

the Iranian officials present in the meeting included director general of Gilan province Veterinary Organization, representative of syndicates of Iran's international transportation companies, envoy of the Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan and deputy head of Border Terminals and Transit Office.
