Iran's exports of natural gas to Nakhichevan Republic have increased electricity generation in the region, noted the Prime Minster of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.

Also, according to MNA, the speaker of the nation's top legislature, Ali Majlis of Nakhichevan, referring to the agreement reached by the presidents of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan Republic over the export of Iran's natural gas to Nakhichevan, and said that the move has enabled the Nakhichevan Republic to build two gas fuelled power plants, one of which is a 40-megawatt power plant that is already operational and the other one, an 80-megawatt power plant is about to be commissioned.

"Iran's assistance has helped us to overcome our electricity and gas supply shortages," he said adding that based on the agreements made between the two sides, the volume of Iran's gas exports to the autonomous republic will be further increased.

According to him, there are a number of projects aimed at the development of relations between Iran and Nakhichevan most important of which is the building of a bridge across Aras River that will connect the two neighboring nations. These projects are expected to come on stream in the near future.

He also commented on the foreign investment in the republic and said, Iran has made significant investments in Nakhichevan Republic, the Persian service of Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported here on Wednesday.

For his part, the Governor General of Iran's West Azarbaijan Province Rahim Qorbani stressed the expansion of relations between the two nations in all aspects in particular in the social, political and economic sectors.
