Azerbaijan’s biennial Transparency Report (BTR) is ready for presentation this week, signaling the country’s commitment to global climate transparency and the 1.5°C target. Azernews reports that Mukhtar Babayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and President of COP29, emphasized the importance of transparency in climate action during the “Round Table of Ministers on Global Climate Transparency” held in the Blue Zone. The event included ministers from nations such as Japan, South Africa, the United States, Italy, and Kazakhstan. “Raising ambition requires clear plans to maintain the 1.5-degree target through Nationally Determined Contributions, National Adaptation Plans, and Biennial Transparency Reports,” Babayev stated. He stressed that such collaborative discussions are key to achieving more effective climate outcomes. Highlighting the significance of COP29, Babayev added, “I urge COP29 to be seen as an opportunity to take these steps. The Baku Declaration, which will be adopted at this round table, will encourage more effective actions on global climate transparency and climate change.” This declaration is expected to reinforce international efforts in ensuring transparent and ambitious climate strategies, setting a benchmark for future COP sessions.
