Using digital technologies in the fight against climate change is a key tool in reducing the effects of emissions. Azernews reports that Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29 and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, emphasized the pivotal role of digital technologies in combating climate change during the high-level round table on the Green Digital Action Program at COP29. According to Babayev, the information and communication sector contributes four percent of global emissions: “We must do everything we can to reduce the impact of this waste. The International Telecommunication Union presented the Declaration on Green Digital Action to the COP29 leadership. Here are our collective responsibilities. Using digital technologies in the fight against climate change is a key tool in reducing the effects of emissions. These technologies lead to reducing emissions, climate adaptation, and at the same time strengthening sustainability.” The minister further highlighted the focus of the event on sustainable infrastructure, inclusive accessibility, and bridging the digital gap: “During the discussions, equal and fair solutions should also be found in less developed countries. COP29 leadership invites everyone to participate in the discussions. These discussions will greatly contribute to the climate goals of the digital transformation.”
