In Azerbaijan, an ambitious goal has been set to increase the volume of cargo transportation to 30 million tons per year by 2030.

Anar Hasanov, Chairman of the Board of the German-Azerbaijan Chamber of Foreign Trade (AHK Azerbaijan), made this statement at the information event titled "Innovations in Railway Technologies in Azerbaijan: Partnerships and Opportunities for German Companies," held in Baku, Azernews reports.

According to him, significant progress has already been achieved, with the share of railway transport in Azerbaijan's GDP increasing from 5.4% to 7% this year.

"Railways remain one of the most environmentally friendly modes of transport, which is especially important at a time when sustainable development issues have become a priority ahead of COP29. The geographical position of Azerbaijan makes it a key center for the North-South and East-West global transport corridors," A. Hasanov noted.

He added that over the last three years, Azerbaijan has achieved record indicators in cargo transportation, moving approximately 18-19 million tons of cargo annually, and aims to increase this volume to 30 million tons by the end of the next decade.
