A solemn ceremony dedicated to the commencement of the Iranian gas delivery to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR) was held in the area of Nakhchivan city gas-exploitation unit on Tuesday.

The Azerbaijani and Iranian Presidents – Ilham Aliyev and Mahmud Ahmadinejdet held one-to-one in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on Tuesday.

The meeting was held at the building of the Supreme Majlis [parliament] of the NAR. After the talks continued in large. The Interior Minister, Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, and President of Azerigas Joint Stock Company, Alikhan Malikov participated in the talks on behalf of Azerbaijan.

The talks focused on perspectives of the Azerbaijani Iranian bilateral relationships, while both sides voiced their satisfaction with the development of cooperation in different spheres, including the economic sector. The commencement of the Iranian gas delivery to NAR was attributed a significant event symbolizing high level of economic relationships and implementation of economic projects.

Azerbaijani and Iranian Presidents – Ilham Aliyev and Mahmud Ahmadinejdet honored the ceremony.

Iranian gas delivery to the NAR, the first over the past 15 years, was set up on 3 November. Over 12,000 subscribers will be supplied with gas in NAR. Besides, Azerbaijani gas has been delivered to Iran since 1 November for provision of the north-east regions of the country. In the initial stage its is planned to import 52 million cu m of gas a year, in 2006 - 250 million cu m, while from 2007 it is will be increased 350 million cu m.

In exchange, ‘blue fuel’ in the same volume has been supplied to Iran through Astara since 1 November 2005 for north-east regions of the country. /Trend/
