The United States backs Kazakhstan's joining to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main export oil pipeline, John Ordway, the U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan, told a news conference in Almaty.
According to Ordway, Washington continues work over establishment of conditions for Kazakh oil delivery via the BTC. "Though the talks still continue, we do all possible to end talks successfully and to enable the Kazakh oil in this direction," Ordway stressed.
The diplomat said that Kazakhstan should have alternative routes for oil transportation.
"We do not regard the issue from the aspect of rivalry. Kazakhstan do not posses enough capacity to transport its oil, which will be produced within the next decades," Ordway underlined.
He added that the U.S. supports the project on establishment of pipelines for Kazakh oil transportation to China.
"We regard it as an important method of oil delivery to significant market," he noted.
Participants in the project are BP (30.1%), the SOCAR (25%), Unocal (8.9%), Statoil (8.71%), TPAO (6.53%), ENI (5%), Itochu (3.4%), ConocoPhillips (2.5%), INPEX (2.5%), Total (5%) and Amerada Hess (2.36%).
