The issue of opening direct flights between Azerbaijan and Poland direct is under permanent watch, Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Krzysztof Czaputowicz said in an interview with Trend.

"Direct flights between Poland and Azerbaijan will surely help to boost tourist flows. I believe this issue is under permanent market watch by competent institutions and several air companies including national carriers," he said.

Polish tourists are more and more interested in visiting the countries of South Caucasus, he said, adding that majority of them travel to Georgia and some go to Azerbaijan.

Czaputowicz noted that surely Azerbaijan has potential to become an interesting destination for many Poles.

"I shall emphasize that Poland has much to offer to the Azerbaijani tourists as well. Many of historical and beautiful cities including Warsaw, Cracow, Pozna?, Wroc?aw, or Tri–city (Gda?sk, Gdynia, Sopot) on the Northern coast of Poland are waiting for tourists from Azerbaijan," he said.

Earlier, chairman of Azerbaijan Tourism Association Nahid Bagirov told Trend that Azerbaijan and Poland may open direct flights.

He noted that this is caused by Polish tourists’ great interest in Azerbaijan.

At present, negotiations are underway regarding opening of the direct flights between Baku and Polish cities, Bagirov said, adding that the flights may be opened in the summer season of 2018.
