Presentation by Baku bidding to host the World Expo 2025 was given to the member countries of the Bureau of International Expositions at the 163rd session of its General Assembly in Paris on June 13.

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Prime Minister Novruz Mammadov.

The presentation stressed that Baku is ready to host the World Expo 2025, and noted that the projects Baku proposed for the exhibition are extensive and universal.

It was also noted that the master plan being developed for the Expo is part of the improvement work envisaged in connection with the expansion of Baku in the Eastern direction. The theme of the project, covering health, education and employment, is of interest to all countries, cultures and people.

The next session of the General Assembly of the Bureau will be held in November 2018. At this session, representatives of the member countries will determine by secret ballot the city that will host the World Expo 2025.

Samir Sharifov, Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister and head of the working group on the bid of Baku, expressed gratitude to all member countries of the Bureau for taking the time and showing interest in the presentation by Baku.

He noted that the presentation is an important opportunity to demonstrate the desire of Azerbaijanis, especially young people, to host the World Expo 2025.

“Now we are looking forward to the beginning of the decisive stage of the campaign,” Sharifov added.

Azerbaijan is an active participant of Expo events. Over the past 18 years, the country has taken part in six Expos. At the last three exhibitions, the pavilions of Azerbaijan were honored with high awards in various categories.

If Baku’s bid is approved, World Expo will be held for the first time in the region on May 10-November 10, 2025.
