Repair work on the Vesalius ship of the Belgian company Jan De Nul is underway at the Zikh shipyard, Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping CJSC reported on March 14.

The dredging ship Vesalius with 90 meters length, 17 meters width and five meters height, which was commissioned in 1980, is temporarily sailing under the flag of Kazakhstan.

The repair of the underwater part of the ship has already been completed. “Currently, work is underway on cleaning the pipes and pumps of the vessel, and the fan of the engine is being repaired. In the future we plan to replace the pipes system and doors of the ballast storage," the company reported.

The completion of the repair work and delivery of the vessel to the customer are planned before the end of March, five days before the deadline.

The company further added that both Zikh and Bibiheybat shipyards receive orders from foreign customers. Last year there were nine vessels of foreign states out of the 43 vessels repaired at Zikh shipyard.

Azerbaijan is highly prioritizing the development of the shipping industry and improvement of the maritime infrastructure. The government has already approved the State Program on Development of Shipping in Azerbaijan for 2016-2020.
