Azerbaijan and Kuwait signed an intergovernmental agreement on air communication between the two countries on November 16.

The document was undersigned by President of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Jahangir Asgarov and Director General of Civil Aviation of Kuwait Yousef Al-Fouzan in Baku.

The deal removes obstacles for opening of air links between the two countries, which will contribute to further development of bilateral economic and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Kuwait.

The signing of the agreement took place on the eve of the presentation of Azerbaijan’s tourism potential in Kuwait on November 24.

Currently, Azerbaijan’s national carrier AZAL and freight carrier Silk Way Airlines are studying the possibility of opening direct flights to cities of Kuwait.

Among the Gulf countries, Kuwait is a country that is located closer to Azerbaijan.

Last May, Azerbaijan and Kuwait signed an aviation agreement, aiming at boosting commercial cooperation in between a number of airlines from both countries to facilitate passenger traffic.

Baku and Kuwait, which established diplomatic relations since 1994 are bond with traditional, historical, religious and cultural ties, as well as the geographical position.
