Instrumental monitoring of associated gases emitted into the atmosphere has begun as part of the activities of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). This is to fulfil the framework of the convention on climate change, a report of the SOCAR Ecology Department says on Monday.
Work has already begun on SOCAR production areas, operating companies and joint ventures.
The monitoring aims at producing an inventory of sources of gases creating the greenhouse effect and specification of database. As a result of the monitoring, emissions into the atmosphere from the oil wells will be assessed and the dynamics of reducing these emissions will be determined and a special report prepared.
SOCAR includes the Azneft production association (the companies producing oil and gas on and offshore), the Azerkimya industrial association (chemical enterprises) and Azerigaz industrial association (gas distribution).
