Azerbaijani taekwondo fighters have brought home six medals from the Fajr tournament in Urmia, Iran. Azerbaijani team included 13 athletes, who were led by Azerbaijani national team head coach Alakbar Imamaliyev. Fighter Rovshan Mammadov (63 kg) showed the highest result - a silver medal among our fighters.
Athletes Samir Javadli (58 kg), Ziya Gasimov (63 kg), Namaz Heydarov (74 kg), Bayrameli Veliyev (80 kg) and Jeyhun Hasanli (87 kg) won bronze medals. At this tournament, which is considered the most stressful events, the Azerbaijani sportsmen won one silver and five bronze medals, and showed a third result in the unofficial team standings.
The Fajr traditional tournament is attended by about 400 taekwondo fighters from 12 countries. The judge teams also included the judge of international category, Etibar Ibrahimov.
Azerbaijani athletes have also started preparations for the international tournament in Germany, which will be held in mid-March.
