Club president: Azerbaijan's 'Inter' intends to win CIS Cup 2011

03 December 2010 [18:43] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani "Inter" football club intends to win the CIS Cup 2011, President Georgi Nikolov said.

"We have already reached the CIS Cup semifinals, and this phase is no longer interesting for us," he said. "We would like to get to the final round and win the cup."

St. Petersburg will host the CIS Cup from Jan. 14 to 23. This year, the event may also be attended by Finnish clubs.

According to Nikolov, Inter will leave for Turkey to hold preparations for the games on Jan. 3, and then visit St. Petersburg. Regarding transfers to Inter, the president said they intend to acquire new forwards.

"Acquiring new players is the coach's prerogative, I just try to find financial support for it," he said. "And the chief coach wants to strengthen his team with forwards, which is now the weakest link of our club. The search for players continues in this direction only."

Moscow's Spartak has won the CIS Cup six times, and Kiev's Dynamo has won five times. Azerbaijani clubs Neftchi and Khazar-Lankaran have twice celebrated a victory. Moldova's Sheriff has won twice, as have Tbilisi's Dinamo and Tashkent's Pakhtakor.
