AIBA names Azerbaijani young boxer as the best of 2010

Azerbaijan's Shaban Shahpalangov, 16, weighing in at 54 kg has been named the best young boxer of the year by the International Boxing Association, AIBA.

“Shaban Shahpalangov of Azerbaijan picks up the award for best youth boxer after taking the youth world flyweight title on home soil at the AIBA Youth World Championships in Baku in April,” a statement from AIBA has said.

Artur Beterbiev from Russia and Katie Taylor from Ireland have been named the best elite boxers of 2010 in the men`s and women`s divisions respectively.

The boxers and best coaches and officials will receive their awards at a special ceremony during the forthcoming AIBA Congress in Almaty, Kazakhstan on November 2nd.
