Guus Hiddink: Losing to Azerbaijan is a big disappointment for Turkish national team

13 October 2010 [11:35] - TODAY.AZ
Defeat by the Azerbaijani National football is a big disappointment for the Turkish national team, Turkey's Head Coach Guus Hiddink  said at the news conference after Turkey- Azerbaijan match.

"Losing to the bronze medalist of the World Championship - the German national team - was not a tragedy, but defeat by Azerbaijan very disappointed us," Hiddink said. He noted that although the national team worked a lot on standard positions, conceded a goal in that position.

He said if Azerbaijan will continue to play on the counterattack as in this game, it can take points from other teams in the group. "If this happens, it will please us very much," Hiddink said.

The Turkish national team is going through hard times. "I have never faced two defeats in four days in my career," Hiddink said.

He noted the absence of Arda Turan in the national team, but added that Turkey's national team is not building a game for one player.

"We have basically two objectives - to gain enough points to enter the European Championship directly, as well as attract new young players to the team," he said.

Rashad Sadikhov's only goal in the 40th minute brought victory to the Azerbaijani national football team in domestic qualifying match with Turkey within 2012 European Championship.
