09 October 2010 [12:07] - TODAY.AZ
6-year-old Russian citizen of Azerbaijani origin Leonard Shikhaliyev has claimed the title of a champion in a chess contest held in Russia’s Ulyanovsk Territory. The kid showed a unique result – he scored 10 points out of possible 10 in the category of up to 8 years. Shikhaliyev was awarded gold medal and a certificate.

According to the chairman of the regional chess federation Vladimir Parfenov, Leonard could easily beat his rivals.

"This unique player actually had to play in the category of up to 10 years, but since he participated in the championship for the first time, according to the rules, he must become a champion at least once, what exactly happened."

So, Shikhaliyev has won a right to attend the championship in a category up to 10 years. Coaches do not also exclude participation in games in the category of 12 years. Thus, Leonard, six-year-old chess star, got the ticket to the junior championship of Russia to be held in Kostroma city in May 2011. In addition, he was awarded the free license to the championship for all age groups of the Volga Federal District to take place in just a month in Naberezhnye Chelny.
