Azerbaijani chess player ranks 10th in European Championship

8th round of the European Individual Chess Championship took place in the Croatian city of Rijeka.
Azerbaijan's chess player Rauf Mammadov played a draw with Russia's Denis Khismatullin. Now Rauf ranks 10th in the championship with 6 points losing 1 point to Georgian Baadur Jobava.

Other Azerbaijani chess players Eltaj Safarli and Nijat Mammadov scored 5.5 points each. In the table of ranks they occupy 39th and 48th positions respectively. Safarli drew with Romania’s Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu and Mammadov with David Navara from the Czech Republic.

Vasif Durarbeyli (86th) and Ulvi Badzharani (91th) with 5 points each rank among the top hundred players of the competition. In total, 408 participants are involved with the men's championship.

Azerbaijani chess player Zeynab Mammadyarova showed good results in the women's tournament. She beat Greek Ekaterini Pavlidu taking 62nd place with 4.5 points.

Other Azerbaijani players Turkan Mammadova and Gulnar Mammadova lost the competitions. They, as well as Nargiz Umudova, who beat Irina Zakurdzhaeva from Russsia rank among the top hundred with 4 points each. Monika Socko (Poland) and Victoria Cmilyte (Lithuania) lead the championship with 6.5 points each.

The championship consisting of 11 rounds will end on March 17.
