Today marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous Azerbaijani football referee Tofiq Bahramov.

On this occasion, the AFFA leadership and representatives of the football community visited his grave. Flowers were laid on the grave of the legendary referee.

Tofiq Bahramov was an Azerbaijani footballer and referee who represented the Soviet Union. He is best known for being the linesman who controversially approved a goal for England during the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final against West Germany.

Due to his Soviet nationality, he was often mistakenly referred to as "the Russian linesman" in England, despite not being Russian.

Earlier in the tournament, he also gained attention as a referee when he disallowed a Swiss goal in a first-round match between Switzerland and Spain. Following his passing in 1993, Azerbaijan's national stadium was renamed the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in his memory.
