National athletes show their best this summer at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Azerbaijani athlete Teymur Mammadov (weight category 81 kg) advanced to the 1/8 finals in boxing competitions on August 8, Trend reported.

Mammadov gained a victory over Ukrainian Denis Soloenko.

Sportsman will also box again on August 12. His next opponent will be Dutch champion Peter Mullenberg.

Another national athelet, canoer Jure Meglic took the 11th place among 21 participants with the result of 90.70 seconds which allow him to take part in the semifinals.

Three Azerbaijani sportsmen are competing in Rio today.

Fencer Mikina Sabina will begin her participation on fighting with the representative of Tunisia Azza Besbes at the Olympics

Judoka Rustam Orujov will perform on the mat in the category of 73 kg.

Boxer Abdulkadir Abdullayev will fight with Frenchman Paul Omba Biongolo in the category of 91 kg.

The 31st Summer Olympic Games are underway in Rio on August 5 to 21, while the 15th Summer Paralympic Games is scheduled for September 7-18.

A record number of countries will participate in the Rio Olympic Games. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees, including first time entrants Kosovo and South Sudan, scheduled to take part in.

With 306 sets of medals, the Games will feature 28 Olympic sports — including rugby sevens and golf, which were added by the International Olympic Committee in 2009.

These sporting events will take place at 33 venues in the host city and at five venues in the cities of Brazilian Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasilia and Manaus.
