Winners of Baku Sport Films Festival named

The second Baku International FICTS Sport Films Festival wrapped up with a grand awarding ceremony on November 20.

The festival was held at the largest theatre in the South Caucasus "Nizami Cinema Center" in Baku by Culture and Tourism Ministry, Youth and Sport Ministry and the National Olympic Committee. Federation International Cinema Television Sportifs (FICTS) also played a role in organizing the event.

Some 115 films from 33 countries are attending the festival. The selection board picked up 48 films representing 23 countries to participation in the competition section.

Award winners were named in five categories including "Feature Film", "Sport and Personality", "World and Sport", "TV Films" and "National Film".

The winner of the "Sport and Personality" became Hungarian director Gabor Peter Nemeth with "The London Scene". Russian Alexander Zamyslov and Vladislav Kolesov’s "Strong spirit. Ice Hockey" film won TV Films category.

Christophe Offenstein from France won Feature Film category with “Turning Tide”.

World and Sport category chose Pedro Toro’s film “Dance” from Spain as the best one.

Vugar Islamzade took the first place in the National Film nomination with commercial films on gymnastics and golf.

Special Jury Prize went to Tibor Kosis from Hungary for “Hungarian fans of Barca”.

Azerbaijani Rauf Mammadov became the winner of the Grand Prix for the film "Winner".

Rauf Mamedov, who has been living for years in Moscow as a contemporary artist, said that he is honored and proud to get the top prize of the festival at homeland.

After the awarding ceremony, Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev, Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov, President of the International Federation of Film and Television sports Franco Ascani (Italy), Chairman of the jury, famous producer Andrew Florian (Hungary) addressed the audience.

They noted that the festival is a significant event in the cultural and sporting life of the country and one of the brightest events in the world of sports movies. They also stressed the importance of the event in promoting the idea of "culture through sport", and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The main aim of the festival being held on the eve of the first European Games in Baku is to show viewers some interesting films on various sports, and promote the authors of the best films.
