British police arrested the ex-footballer Eric Cantona for having assaulted a man in north London, according to reports in the British media. 47 year old Cantona was taken to a police station shortly after midday and was cautioned by the police, a procedure used in Britain for minor offenses.
The former player was seen shortly before the attack in a pub in the Regents Park and Primrose Hill area of north London. "Officers from Camden Borough attended a call and a man in his mid-40s was arrested on suspicion of common assault. He was taken into custody and subsequently cautioned for common assault", Scotland Yard confirmed in a statement.
The police also said that the male victim of the altercation did not require medical treatment at the scene. In 1995 Cantona, a former United player, was given one of the toughest sanctions ever imposed on a Premiership player for kicking a Crystal Palace fan during a match. The former French international received a nine-month suspension, which meant he was unable to take part in any competitive match anywhere in the world.
