European Olympic Games in Baku important action for holding great Olympic Games

Azerbaijan considers holding of the first European Olympic Games in Baku as an important action for holding great Olympic Games in the future.

"We believe that the first European Olympic Games, to be held in Baku in 2015, is an important action for holding great Olympic Games in our country in the future," Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said at the workshop organized by the French embassy and dedicated to the preparation for the first European Olympic Games. "Along with this, we believe that these games will provide the country's youth with positive energy."

The minister stressed that such an event can make a contribution to the fight against drug and alcohol abuse among young people.

While speaking about the sports infrastructure in Azerbaijan, Rahimov noted that along with the new complexes, the existing sports facilities will be used during the games.

"We use the existing sports facilities, playgrounds and arenas during the games," he said. "But I want to note that we have started the construction of new sports complexes before gaining the right to host the European Olympic Games."

The minister also said that besides staying at hotels, temporary housing will be created for the tourists in Baku.
