Barca: Fabregas not for sale

20 July 2013 [11:40] - TODAY.AZ
Though Manchester United is desperate to sign Cesc Fàbregas and David Moyes has confirmed his interest in the midfielder, Barça is having none of it. "Barcelona can assure everyone that we will not entertain any offers for Cesc. It is not up for discussion. He's not for sale," said Barcelona's vice-president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The rumour mill went into overdrive when Ed Woodward, the English club's executive vice-chairman, abandoned his team's tour of Australia, with a number of English media outlets claiming that he might be in Barcelona.

When asked by journalists about the interest in Cesc during a press conference in Sydney, where the English club is on tour, Moyes made no secret of his intentions, replying: "I'll hopefully know a little more in the next day or so".

Manchester United needs to strike a decisive blow, given that Wayne Rooney wants to leave and it needs to present the fans with an exciting new signing. David Moyes has asked for Cesc and the club is doing everything possible to give him what he wants.

The offer may be worth around €30 million. Barça has been denying that it has received an offer for Fàbregas for several days, only for Tito Vilanova to let the cat out of the bag in his presser on Tuesday, contradicting the official line and admitting that bids had in fact been made for the Spaniard.

Arsène Wenger, meanwhile, also believes that there is no chance of the player leaving Barcelona. He ought to know, as Arsenal has first refusal on the former Gunners midfielder.
