Chelsea Spaniards do sums of 4th int'l trophy

15 May 2013 [16:20] - TODAY.AZ
Tonight sees Chelsea and Benfica lock horns in the final of the Europa League, the only of the four big trophies (at club and international level) missing from the medal collection of two of the London outfit's Spanish stars: Fernando Torres and Juan Mata.

What's more, both are key members of the set-up under countryman Rafa Benítez. The pair has won the Champions League, the World Cup and the European Championship (which Torres has lifted twice), and now they are looking to round off their sparkling CVs with the Europa League, which represents Chelsea's last shot at silverware this season.

Benfica, meanwhile, still has the Portuguese Cup final to come, but will be hoping to shake off its disappointment from last weekend's loss to Porto, which virtually handed its rival the league title. Mata and Torres won't be the only figures flying the flag for Spain in Amsterdam. Besides Blues boss Benítez, the Londoners will start with Navarra-born full-back César Azpilicueta, while long-term injury casualty Oriol Romeu will also be in attendance.

On the Portuguese side, Rodrigo will be on the bench. Another person with history in his sights is Eduardo Salvio, who could become the only man to lift three Europa League crowns, having played in back-to-back triumphs for Atlético de Madrid in the last two campaigns.

Finally, despite joining Chelsea in trying circumstances, Rafa Benítez is on course to pick up his fifth international trophy, split across four different clubs. He previously took Valencia to the 2004 UEFA Cup, led Liverpool to Champions League and European Super Cup glory in 2005 and oversaw Inter Milan's successful 2010 Club World Cup campaign.
