The 37th edition of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in 2019 was awarded to Azerbaijan and will take place in Baku.

The Council of the International Federation of Gymnastics made a decision to hold the World Championship 2019 in Baku at a meeting held in Liverpool on May 10.

Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) reported that the Baku-2019 presentation was made by AGF Secretary General Farid Gaibov, who participated in the meeting of the FIG Council.

Gaibov informed the participants about sports achievements of Azerbaijan in recent years and recalled that Baku held the World Championship in Rhythmic Gymnastics in 2005.

"That was the first World Cup on the Olympic sport held in our country at a high organizational level. Then, Baku hosted the European Championships in 2007 and 2009. In 2014, Baku will open the new National Gymnastics Arena for the next European Championship," he said.

The AGF Secretary General also thanked the representatives of the FIG, who have recently paid an inspection visit to Baku.

The world championship will serve as a qualifier for 2020 Olympic Games.
