4th in 5 - Barca on title throne

The tie has been broken. Barcelona has become the team with the most 'La Liga' titles in the 21st century (six), taking its all-time tally to 22. Whether yet another changing of the guard is in process in Spanish football remains uncertain, but what is clear is that this generation of Barça players hasn't lost its appetite for silverware yet.

Real Madrid's record-breaking championship-winning campaign last season had put the two giants of Spanish football back on level terms for league titles this century, as well as denting Barça's bid to win five straight titles. However, by sealing glory this year, the 'Azulgranas' have added another chapter to their remarkable recent run and further confirmed the success of a process set in motion 20 years ago, when Johan Cruyff helped instil a belief in the importance of home-grown talent in the halls of the Camp Nou.

The 2012-13 title also means that this past decade has officially matched Barça's 1990s Dutch heyday, when the club also won six titles: four on the trot under Cruyff and two under Van Gaal.
