"Thanks for everything, Boss" Cristiano Ronaldo wrote on his twitter account on hearing the news of the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Real Madrid forward, together with the brief tribute, posted a photo of the player on his first day at Old Trafford in the summer of 2003.

The Portuguese star played for the Scottish coach until 2009 when he left the club for Real Madrid. With United, both enjoyed success winning three leagues, one FA Cup, two League Cups, a Charity Shield, a Champions League and a World Club Cup.
