Leo Messi came to Barça's rescue at San Mamés and his presence had an immediate effect. He scored the equaliser and played in Alexis to make it 2-1. The Argentinian set the record for the number of away goals scored in a season with his 24th, beating Cristiano Ronaldo's mark from the 2011/12 season.
Messi found the back of the net again after a two-match drought, and has now scored a total of 44 this season, putting his physical problems behind him if the events at San Mamés are to be believed. This was his second goal at the stadium after five appearances in Bilbao.
Messi's was also Barcelona's 100th league goal. This is the fourth time in history that the club has managed the feat, after 2011/12 (114), 2008/09 (105) and 1996/97 (102), although it has scored its century quickest this season.
