Until Wednesday, no-one will know whether Leo Messi will be fit to play in the match against PSG. The striker is still undergoing treatment and a scan is scheduled to ascertain the situation regarding his hamstring injury. His availability is an unknown quantity, but Barcelona has a Plan B: Cesc Fàbregas.
The coaching staff has always had great faith in the Catalan player. The tricky part has been finding him a spot in the team. As a false nine, the position he played against Mallorca, he gets excellent results, demonstrated by the three goals he scored, the first hat-trick of his career. However, that spot is usually occupied by a certain Leo Messi.
The other option for Cesc in the Barcelona line-up is playing in midfield, moving Iniesta out to the wing. The Spanish star has already made it clear that, although he would go wherever he was told, he would not be happy about it.
With Messi's possible absence for the PSG tie, opportunity has come knocking for Fàbregas once again. "I don't know if I'll play, I have no idea. We'll have to see how Messi is", commented Cesc in Majorca.
The final test for Messi will come on Wednesday in the pre-match training session. With the results of the latest scans, added to how the player himself feels when he takes to the pitch, a definitive decision will be made.
