Galatasaray players fetch victory for Turkey

23 March 2013 [10:51] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey is back in the saddle after an unimpressive 2-0 away victory against minnow Andorra in a World Cup qualifying Group D encounter March 22.

Selcuk Inan scored the opening goal for Turkey with a free kick in the 30th minute. Burak Yilmaz, in unstoppable form during the last weeks, doubled the score in injury time in the first half. Turkey controlled the possession of the ball during the second half but was unable to find Andorra's net. Umut Bulut in the 64th minute and Alper Potuk in the 86th minute each missed a clear opportunity to increase the margin.

With only its second win in five games, Turkey rose to six points, trailing Hungary and Romania by four. The two teams tied 2-2 in a March 22 game and maintain their hopes for an eventual second place. The leader of the group, the Netherlands, defeated Estonia at home 3-0.

Turkey will now host Hungary March 26 in a highly critical game for keeping their ambition of qualifying alive. Hungary won their first game in Budapest 3-1.
