To maintain security of Winter Olympics 2014 in Sochi, Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs will order an air reconnaissance system equipped with unmanned helicopters, reports Interfax referring to Dmitry Sadovy, chief engineer for unmanned systems at the ministry's aircraft center.

According to Sadovy, in 2013 Russian Ministry of Interior Affairs will purchase several systems of this kind; each of them consists of two unmanned helicopters Horizon Air S-100 and a ground-based (or ship-based) control post.

Helicopters Horizon Air S-100 made by JSC Horizon (Rostov, Russia) jointly with Austrian company Schiebel can be operated in any weather conditions, day and night, on land and at sea.
Plastun is a ground system using tracked chassis. It is 64x64 cm in size and weighs 40-50 kg. The device may carry up to 100 kg and move at a speed of 0.7 meters a second, operating radius is up to 200 km; endurance is up to 10 hours. Robototekhnika offered another model of robots with side cameras.

As was earlier reported, Federal Security Service (FSB) will use new surveillance and reporting systems Plastun to secure the coming Olympics in Sochi; those systems are supposed to patrol and detect suspicious objects. In addition, a special air defense group will be formed in Sochi by 2014.
