
The International Chess Festival Nakhchivan Open 2012, dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, has ended at the Chess Center in Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan.
The last ninth round fixed the following results among leaders:
Sergey Tivyakov (Holland)-Sergey Zhigalko (Belarus)-draw
Viorel Yordakesku (Moldova)-Alexander Khalifman (Russia)- draw
Konstantin Shanava (Georgia)-Eltaj Safarli (Azerbaijan)-0:1.
As a result, Yordakesku, Zhigalko and Safarli gained 6.5 points each, but additional indicators of the Moldovan and Belarus were better than of the grandmaster of the Azerbaijani national team and he finished third. Yordakesku won the tournament, while Zhigalko won silver.
Among other chess players from Azerbaijan, Gadir Huseynov (6 points) finished fourth, Rauf Mammadov (5.5) finished seventh and Azer Mirzoyev (5.5) came eighth, thus, adding to the top ten lists. A total of 47 chess players took part in the contest.
