About 0.5mln people backs Baku’s bid to host host 2020 Summer Olympics

Thanks to the signature collecting campaign launched a month ago to support Baku’s bid to host Olympics and Paralympics 2020, about 500,000 people supported it, the BAKU 2020 bid team reported.

The campaign launched by the Azerbaijani Student Youth Organizations’ Union already collected a half million signature and this day coincided with the day of presentation of Baku-2020 project at the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees, held on 14 April in Moscow.


Executive Director of the Baku-2020 Organizing Committee Konul Nurullayeva said that such a support is a joyful event. "I thank everyone for successfully organizing this campaign, especially our youths. All who have joined this campaign showed their real support to this project,” she said.

The campaign is also conducted online through the official website of Baku-2020.

 
Baku (Azerbaijan), Doha (Qatar), Madrid (Spain), Istanbul (Turkey) and Tokyo (Japan) claim to host the Olympics-2020: The first presentation of the candidate cities' applications took place in Moscow.
