Azerbaijani chess players unsuccessful in European championship

The eighth round of the European men’s chess championship has been held in Plovdiv (Bulgaria).  Azerbaijani chess players were again unsuccessful. Earlier Shahriyar Mammadyarov was late for the match against Georgia’s Shota Azaladze and got technical loss.

Only Vasif Durarbeyli could  beat his opponent from the same country Eltaj Safarli. Vasif is 60th with 5 points lagging behind the top three leaders by 1.5 points.

Rauf Mammadov and Vugar Rasulov have 4.5 points each and take 99th and 120th places respectively. Members of the national team of Azerbaijan-Gadir Huseynov, Shahriyar Mammadyarov and Eltaj Safarli – have gained four points and take from 160th to 190th places. The contest with participation of 348 chess players will consist of 11 rounds and end on 31 March.
