Georgia, Azerbaijan to discuss bid to host Euro-2020

Representatives of Georgia and Azerbaijan will meet and discuss future plans in the next two weeks at the UEFA Congress in Turkey, said the President of Football Federation of Georgia Zviad Sichinava at briefing on Thursday.

"Specific questions will be addressed at this meeting and then we start the real work on the implementation of project of the Euro-2020," - he said.

Sichinava stressed that he considers the holding of European Football Championship in Georgia and Azerbaijan in 2020 "is quite real."

According to him, the federations of the two countries need help of other states to carry out preparatory work. According to Sichinava, there should be a plan by 2014 that will presented to UEFA, and which has to be determined the cities which will be hosting championship.

According to the president of the federation, it is about five cities in Georgia - Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi and two more that will be clarified in the future. Sichinava joked that it is possible that Lazika, city which to be built by the country's president, Mikhail Saakashvili will be among these cities.

According to Sichinava, in accordance with UEFA requirements 12 stadiums and 24 residential base need to be built, which is associated with a lot of work. He noted that the championship in Georgia is a challenge for the federation. UEFA will name host country of the Euro-2020 in 2014.
