
Head of the International Relations department of the Azerbaijan Olympic Committee Konul Nurullayeva is attending the 5th World Conference on Women and Sport organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Los Angeles, US.
The three-day conference under the motto “Together Stronger: the Future of Sport” brings together more than 600 representatives of Olympic committees, international federations, universities and non-governmental organizations from 130 countries.
The event started with speeches of IOC President Jacques Rogge, the IOC`s Women and Sport Commission chairperson Anita DeFrantz, Chair of UN Commission on Status of Women Marjon V. Kamara and Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Addressing the conference, Konul Nurullayeva said that Azerbaijan, rapidly developing country supports women`s active participation in all spheres including sports. She underlined women`s participation in sports is one of the priorities of the National Strategy on Physical Education and Sport Development for 2009-2020 in Azerbaijan.
“The International Wrestling Federation (FILA) awarded Azerbaijani Mariya Stadnik with the best fenake wrestler of 2011 award,” she said.
