Day of Brotherhood of Azerbaijanis and Georgians to be marked in Baku

04 February 2011 [13:55] - TODAY.AZ
One of the crucial steps undertaken by Azerbaijan and Georgia to enhance historically warm ties was opening of the Permanent Representation of the Baku Mayor’s Office in Tbilisi and opening of the Tbilisi Mayor’s Office in Baku respectively in 1995.

The League of Georgian Organizations in Azerbaijan was established on the same year to bring together other Georgia-related structures in Azerbaijan and coordinate their activities.

In 2010, the League opened free school of Georgian language in Baku. Presently, the League has a large number of both Azerbaijani and Georgian members, according to the head of the League Tiymuraz Kirimov.

“The League of Georgian Organizations in Azerbaijan, together with its members and partners, has decided to dedicate a single day to a common cause, in other worlds, to institute a Day of Brotherhood of Azerbaijanis and Georgians,” Kirimov added.

”We have decided to celebrate this day on February 6 every year. From now on we will mark this day on a larger scale,” he said.

“Moreover, what is interesting is that we will mark this a holiday in different cities - in Tbilisi, then in Ganja and Kutaisi, Zagatala, Balakan, Kakheti, Kvemo-Kartli, Batumi, Bakuriani, etc. each year,” Kirimov said.
