
Main State Traffic Police Department of the Republic of Azerbaijan compiled a report on the road accidents took place in Azerbaijan in 2010.
As many as 2,721 road accidents were recorded in Azerbaijan last year. 925 were killed, 2,871 were injured as a result of the road accidents. 744 from 925 people are men, 181 are women, 2,131 from 2,871 injured are men, 740 – women. The number of accidents decreased by 2.5% to 71 people, the killed by 0.5% to 5, injured by 5.7% 173.
93.1% (2,534) of road accidents occurred during violation traffic rules by drivers, as well as 42.3% (1,150) - high-speed driving, 23.6% (642) - while crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic, 2.4% (65) - driving while being drunk.
Pedestrians were run over in 39.8% (1,084) of the road accidents. 333 pedestrians died and 837 were injured. 76 children and teenagers died in recorded road accidents, and other 270 were injured. 43 of dead and 163 of the injured are pedestrians.
